About Zakynthos

Zakynthos lives and dies by one image: Navagio Beach, also called Shipwreck Beach, where a rusted smuggler's freighter sits on white sand inside a cove surrounded by 200-meter limestone cliffs. It's as dramatic in person as it looks online — you can only reach it by boat, and the water really is that shade of electric blue. But Zakynthos has more going on than its most famous beach. The Keri Caves on the southern tip offer kayaking through sea arches and grottoes. Gerakas Beach is a nesting ground for endangered loggerhead turtles, and if you visit between June and August, you might spot hatchlings. The island's east coast has a string of quieter beaches — Porto Zoro, Banana Beach, Cameo Island — plus tavernas in Zakynthos Town serving moussaka and local Verdea wine for pocket change.
