About Zanzibar
Zanzibar is an archipelago off the coast of Tanzania that has been a trading crossroads for centuries — Arab, Persian, Indian, and African influences collide in the UNESCO-listed Stone Town, where narrow alleys open into spice markets, carved wooden doors guard centuries-old houses, and the evening food market at Forodhani Gardens is one of the best street-food experiences in the world. The east coast beaches — Nungwi, Kendwa, Paje — have that Indian Ocean perfection: white sand, turquoise water, dhow sailing boats on the horizon. Paje is a world-class kitesurfing spot. The spice tours through the island's interior are fascinating. And the prices make Southeast Asia look expensive.
