About Máncora
Mancora is proof that Peru isn't just about Machu Picchu and Lima cevicherias. This small town in the far north, about two hours from the Ecuadorian border, has warm water year-round (a rarity on Peru's cold Pacific coast), consistent surf breaks, and a food scene that punches absurdly hard for a place with one main road. You'll find ceviche made from fish caught that morning for 15 soles ($4), wood-fired seafood restaurants that would be trendy in any major city, and beach bars where you lose track of which pisco sour you're on. The surf at Pocitas is mellow enough for beginners, while the main break handles intermediate riders. Humpback whales pass through from August to October, and the sunsets over the Pacific are reliably spectacular.
