About Diani Beach
Diani Beach is the kind of place that makes you wonder why it isn't more famous. A 17-kilometer stretch of white sand runs along Kenya's south coast, backed by swaying palms where Angolan colobus monkeys leap between the canopy. The coral reef offshore creates a natural lagoon of warm, shallow water that's ideal for kitesurfing and snorkeling, and the marine park around Kisite-Mpunguti is home to dolphins, whale sharks, and sea turtles. Accommodation ranges from backpacker spots at around $15 USD a night to boutique resorts, and a plate of fresh grilled fish with ugali at a local banda will run you about $3. The Shimba Hills National Reserve is a short drive away, offering elephant sightings and the stunning Sheldrick Falls without the safari-crowd prices of the Masai Mara.
