About Barcelona

Barcelona might be the only city where you can spend the morning inside a Gaudi masterpiece, eat patatas bravas and vermouth at a market counter for lunch, then be swimming in the Mediterranean by 2 PM. Barceloneta Beach runs right along the old fishing neighborhood, and it's genuinely good — wide sand, warm water from June through October, and beach bars serving cold Estrella. Walk ten minutes north to Nova Icaria or Bogatell for more space and fewer selfie sticks. The city itself needs no introduction: La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, the Gothic Quarter's medieval alleys. But the beach dimension is what makes Barcelona uniquely livable as a destination. Tapas crawls through El Born or Gracia will run you 20-30 euros with wine, and the metro gets you everywhere for 1.20 euros a ride.

  • 5Wander the narrow medieval streets of El Born
