About Oahu

Oahu is the island that has everything and somehow still surprises you. Waikiki is the famous one — a crescent of golden sand with Diamond Head looming behind it — and it's iconic for a reason, even if it's more crowded than the postcards suggest. But drive 45 minutes to the North Shore in winter and you're watching 30-foot waves at Pipeline, the most famous surf break on the planet. Lanikai Beach, on the windward side, has water so turquoise it looks photoshopped. Kailua is the laid-back town with the best poke bowls. The food scene is its own universe: plate lunches, garlic shrimp from the Kahuku trucks, malasadas from Leonard's, and poke so fresh it changes daily. Hike the Pillbox Trail at sunrise for a view that justifies the alarm clock.
